How Does Mac Conserve Water?

One way that Macalester lives out our values of global citizenship is through acting as a steward of our water resources. The campus models water efficiency by installing low flow shower heads and sink aerators, and reducing irrigation needs by planting native plants at Markim Hall. The parking lot west of the Janet Wallace Fine Arts is designed to clean stormwater. Two green roofs also reduce stormwater coming from Kagin Commons and the link between Doty and Turck residence halls. Porous pavers that can be found outside Janet Wallace, Markim Hall, and Weyerhaeuser Hall allow storm water through them. The Prairie also reduces runoff from rain and snowmelt.
