The International Women's Day 2019 theme Think equal, build smart, innovate for change focuses on innovative ways in which we can advance gender equality and the empowerment of women, particularly in the areas of social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure. 

Understanding the gender-environment nexus is not only key to understanding social and environmental inequities and barriers to sustainable development, but to unlocking options for transformative action, as well.
 
The UN Environment Assembly will host the Women's Day celebrations to reflect on data gaps of gender-environment statistics and how existing innovative gender practices are helping to #SolveDifferent nowadays environmental crises. 


The UN's theme for international women's day was Think equal, build smart, innovate for change, and focused on innovative ways to further gender equality and women empowerment, particularly in regards to sustainable infrastructure, access to public services and social protection systems. They believe that understanding gender inequality is a key to understanding all social and environmental inequities and barriers to social development. The UN Environmental Assembly hosted International Women's day celebrations to reflect on how better understanding gender inequality can lead to innovative solutions to environmental crises.
