Book Talk by Dr. M. Jahi Chapell

This Friday, March 29th, Dr. M. Jahi Chapell will be presenting a book talk on “Beginning to End Hunger in Belo Horizonte, Brazil and Beyond.” In this book, Chappell presents the story of Belo Horizonte, a city home to 2.5 million people and a city with one of the most successful food security programs. Belo Horizonte has sharply reduced malnutrition since its Municipal Secretariat of Food and Nutritional Security was founded in 1993. It has served as an inspiration for Brazil’s renowned Zero Hunger programs. This program and its work have demonstrated how food security, rural livelihoods and healthy ecosystems can be supported together. Chappell shows the importance of comprehensive approaches to food security, how to design successful policies to end hunger, and strategies for enacting policy change. Food scarcity is a problem that will only increase with increased effects of global warming, and is therefore a sustainability issue.

Come watch the book talk on Friday, March 29th, from Noon – 1 pm in the Weyerhaeuser Boardroom.
