Bicycle Powered Washing Machine
A few years ago, students in Suzanne Savanick-Hansen’s class “Sustainability and the College Campus” developed an idea for a bicycle-powered generator. The rider would pedal the bike and run a motor which would create electricity. Recently, a worker in the Sustainability Office, proposed to remove the motorized element and make a washing machine out of it. This washing machine has recently arrived! The bike powered washing machine will be given to the Eco-House. The bicycle washer might be able to save on water costs/usage because it uses half of the amount of water a traditional front-load washer does, and uses human powered energy! The Sustainability Office aims to bridge the gap between sustainability and wellness, which this bike will help do!
