New EcoHouse Chicken Coop

This month, the Macalester EcoHouse established a student-run chicken coop next to the MULCH garden plot by the Spanish House with six chickens. The EcoHouse has had a chicken coop in the past run by the Mac organization MULCH (Macalester Urban Land and Community Health). Their goal was to provide “an ongoing hands-on educational project for students, faculty, staff, and community members.” This new coop will continue that goal and provide opportunities for the Macalester community to learn how to care for chickens and the role they have in a more sustainable urban landscape and foodscape.
