Living Laboratory Case Study: Hydrology
Course: Hydrology
Faculty: Dr. Kelly MacGregor
As a class assignment, the hydrology students calculated the runoff from different parts of campus. They consider the type of land cover for different parcels, as well as any existing stormwater remediation measures that were installed in the construction of newer buildings. Eventually the class hopes to estimate total anticipated runoff, and use the data to apply for a reduction on charges on stormwater fees for areas with stormwater projects. Professor MacGregor noted, "the students loved this project. I had no idea that this kind of real-world project would be so engaging for the students."
