Katherine Ordway Natural History Study Area

Did you know Macalester has its own biodiversity Gem? Macalester owns 300 acres of land 17 miles from campus on the Mississippi River. The many natural habitats found at Ordway Field Station include:
  • tall grass prairie
  • oak savanna and woodland
  • riparian forests
  • seasonal and permanent ponds and springs
  • a backwater lake, adjacent to the Mississippi River
This land is truly an amazing site for biodiversity and urban sustainability!
