President Rosenberg Signs Commitment to Sustainable Practices of Higher Education Institutions on the Occasion of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development

On April 18, 2012, President Brian Rosenberg signed the "Commitment to Sustainable Practices of Higher Education Institutions on the Occasion of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development." The UN Conference on Sustainable Development will be held on June 20-22 in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), in Rio de Janeiro, and the 10th anniversary of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg. This Declaration expressly connects Macalester's history of internationalism with our strong commitment to sustainability. The college already developed a comprehensive Sustainability Plan with education and oeprations goals, but this commitment requires us to share our information with international frameworks, like the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. The Sustainability Advisory Committee will track progress on our goals.
